Fragrance oils are widely used to scent potpourri, candles, incense sticks, fresh and dried floral bouquets, and air fresheners. Fragrances are generally added to potpourri at the rate of 1% - 3.0% on weight of the product to which they are applied. Candles are generally scented at the rate of 3% - 8% by weight.
Fragrances are inherently oil soluble. By blending the fragrance oil with a non-ionic surfactant (such as our NP-9 or TW-80), the fragrance oil can be emulsified in water. Diluting fragrance oils with water is commonly used when preparing liquid air fresheners. Potpourri, fresh and dried bouquets, and candles are usually scented with the pure oil. Fragrance oils may also be diluted with dipropylene glycol. We offer both straight oil and a fragrance/surfactant mixture (50% surfactant by weight).
Please specify either oil or water soluble when ordering fragrances. The prices for both versions are the same. Fragrances are sold by weight and are priced by the pound. A 1-quart container is filled with 2 pounds of fragrance. A 1-gallon container generally weighs about 7 to 9 pounds. Five-gallon pails contain approximately 35 to 50 pounds of fragrance oil.
