GLITTER AND METALLIC PIGMENTS

Our Koch Color glitter is designed for applications requiring maximum brilliance and sparkle and is ideal for floral and craft applications. Our thin film thickness gives excellent coverage. One pound of glitter covers 125 square feet, much more than standard hobby grade glitters. Our glitter is made from high quality precision cut metallic foils consisting of vacuumed metallized pigmented polyethylene terephthalate. Glitter requires the use of an adhesive binder to hold the glitter onto the substrate. We recommend our Pigment Adhesive 309. Pigment Adhesive 309 can be used with dried flowers, craft materials, and most fresh flowers and foliage.*

Our Silver and Gold metallic pigments are 99.9% pure with excellent covering capacity. They are designed for use with water-based systems. This eliminates the need for hazardous solvents and thinners. They are excellent for use in floral and craft applications. Fine particle size provides uniform coverage. Our metallic pigments come in paste form eliminating the dust associated with dry powder forms. They are mixed with water and an adhesive binder to produce metallic paints that can be applied by spray, immersion or brush. As a binder we offer our Pigment Adhesive 309. When coating waxy surfaces, we also recommend our Pre-Treatment Additive (Paint Prep 9L) below.

  Adhesive Binder

Pigment Adhesive 309 is a specially formulated glue used to hold the metallic pigments onto the surface of the item being coated. It comes in concentrated form. Normal dilution rate is 1 part binder mixed with 3-5 parts water. Pigment Adhesive 309 is specially formulated for use with our metallic pigments and can be used with dried flowers, craft materials, and most fresh flowers and foliage.* See also the Pre-Treatment Additive below (Paint Prep 9L), an optional additive that helps performance when coating items that have a waxy surface.

 Pre-Treatment Additive

In some cases, where the surface is waxy, adhesion of pigments can be difficult. By removing surface waxes before coating, results can be improved. We offer a pre-treatment product called Paint Prep 9L. This product contains ingredients that break down surface waxes. It is a concentrated product that is added to water at the rate of 2-4 fluid ounces per gallon. Foliage is first soaked in this mixture for a short period of time, then rinsed prior to coating.
